Snowy Owl

Hopefully the best for us in this year and we will be better than before. Now, on my blog this time I wanna tell you guys about  an adorable animal with many unique facts. Can you guess it ?
Yup, I wanna describe about SNOWY OWL ...!!

The snowy owl (Bubo scandiacus) is a large, white owl of the typical owl family. 
Snowy owls are native to Arctic regions in North America and Eurasia. Males are almost all white, while females have more flecks of black plumage. Juvenile snowy owls have black feathers until they turn white.

Physical Appearance
Snow owl (snowy owl: Bubo scandiacus) is a species of owl that produces a name because of the color of its fur that looks as white as snow. Only male owls have whitest-white bodies. Female owls also have white fur, but with additional black spots on the back, chest, & wings. While the young snow owls are black.

Beyond the problem of feather color, the snow owl has a physical appearance that is no different from other owl species. His head is round with a flat look. Its beak & paw is curved & sharp at the edges. Its head can rotate up to 180 degrees, which means the owl can see the object behind it without having body. Snow owls also have ears that are located on top. But the ears are not visible because it is covered by thick head hairs.Snow owls have a dominant white fur color for camouflage purposes. Incidentally, the main habitat of the snow owl is the scanty snowy area of ​​North America, Europe, and northern Asia. Combination of white & black on owl feathers. Working from a distance looks like rocks or piles of snow-covered wood. And to protect itself from the cold climate, the snow owl has a very thick coat of fur.

 
Life Cycle
Snowy owls can live 9 -10 years in the wild.  The snowy owl's mating season is from May to September.    The average clutch size is 7 to 8 eggs. They lay from 3 to 15 eggs depending on the amount of food available.  It takes 32 days for egg incubation!Young owls leave the nest 25 days after hatching but cannot fly well until they are 50 days old.  Snowy owls can start breeding when they are 2 years old.  YES the snowy owl can lay a lot of eggs  and the numbers are rising because we are getting better at protecting them!

Hunting and Diet 
Snow owls are carnivorous animals where these birds are in smaller army. Whether it's rats, lemmings, small birds, fish, & occasional carcasses of large animals. The snowy owl is a patient hunter that perches and waits to identify its prey before soaring off in pursuit. Snowy owls have keen eyesight and great hearing, which can help them find prey that is invisible under thick vegetation or snowcover. The owls deftly snatch their quarry with their sharp talons.

A snowy owl's preferred meal is lemmings—many lemmings. An adult may eat more than 1,600 lemmings a year, or three to five every day. The birds supplement their diet with rabbits, rodents, birds, and fish. 

The methods used by owls for food vary. If the prey is a land animal, this bird may be its prey by ambushing it from the air, or chasing it while standing on the ground. Meanwhile, if the prey is a small bird, this bird extinct prey while flying with his claws are strong & sharp. If the prey is a fish, the snow owl will be alerted in the hole pit to ambush the fish that appears on the surface of the water with its claws.

Migration
These magnificent owls sometimes remain year-round in their northern breeding grounds, but they are frequent migrants to Canada, the northern United States, Europe, and Asia. Lemming availability may determine the extent of southern migration, when owls take up summer residence on open fields, marshes, and beaches.
